A New Agent! by thehotty
thehotty : Who-ho! How fun this is!

Sesshoumaru : Indeed. You are rewriting a story.

Kagome : I like this one a lot more. It isn't stuck, since this is like the only thing you think about.

thehotty : Yeah, well, it helps trying to think up the next chapter along the way to work.

Kagome : True. So, on with it!

She sat in front of her desk and flipped through the pages of a manuscript in front of her. It was the fourth addition of the series, yet she still feared that her new agent wasn’t going to like it at all. It was dull compared to the first and second and plain boring compared to the third. But it was all about the romance and the building affection between the two main characters.

A loud knock sounded on the door, causing the woman to jump slightly from the unexpected noise. She quickly straightened her long raven hair and smoothed out her tie and dress shirt. Glancing at the computer screen, she quickly scanned her face in the reflective black screen, making sure she looked fine, her blue eyes searching franticly.

After realizing she looked fine, she picked up a remote and turned down the blaring music she had forgotten was playing.

“Come in!” she called out.

The door swung open to reveal a woman much like herself except with long silver hair. Fangs poked out of the corner of the woman’s lips when she smirked and her mails were pointed like claws.

“Hey, mom! Uncle Yasha told me to tell you your new agent’s here. Yasha says Kyo has got him in the living room waiting for you,” the woman called out.

‘Mom’ nodded and stood up. “Alright girlie. Let’s go meet my new boss-man,” she joked while walking up to her daughter. She threw an arm around her shoulders and neck and began to walk down the halls.

“Kyo says he looks very familiar, but he can’t place him. Could he be a demon? Because if he wasn’t, Kyo’d have no problems remembering,” the girl voiced.

The woman sighed. “Kanade, I couldn’t tell you. Majick can do a lot of things now a-days. Most demons try to blend it. He could be a demon, or he could be human,” she answered with a shrug.

They reached the entrance to the living room where three men sat. Three sets of golden eyes met the woman’s. One in question and confusion, one in guilt and sadness, and the third in shock and anger.

The woman ignored the first two sets and watched the third one in growing horror.

“Shit,” she whispered before almost completely losing the use of her legs, causing her to lean up against the door frame.

“We’re fucked Kagome,” the rough voice of the second pair of eyes commented.

Kagome turned her attention to those eyes and stared at him, silently begging for a way out. Those eyes dropped to look at his clawed hands, showing off his fine furred puppy ears and silver hair.

The first pair watched quietly for a minute. “Mom, what’s going on?” his smooth, warm voice asked.

Kagome looked at him, taking in his features briefly. He was tall, almost two heads taller then herself. He had a decent amount of muscle, for any demon of the modern times. His silver hair hung loose around his face, reaching mid-thigh. He had a blue moon on his forehead, but it was covered by his bangs all the time so nobody would ask about it.

She turned to face her daughter, who was watching the third guy closely. Her daughter faced her as well.

“Mom, seriously, what’s up? Who is this? Another Uncle you didn’t mention or what?” she asked pointing a finger at the unknown figure.

“Sit down, Kanade. Leave your mom alone for a minute,” Inu Yasha ordered.

Kanade swung her head to face her Uncle. “No! Tell me what’s going on,” she demanded.

“Kanade, sit down!” Kagome ordered.

She swung her head back to look at her mom. After realizing her mother wasn’t in the mood, Kanade decided to listen to her mother. She moved over to the couch her brother sat on and sat next to him.

She watched her mother pick out a chair across from them and closer to their Uncle then the other man.

Kagome sat down and sighed before looking up at a furious demon. He had long silver hair that went to his knees and piercing golden yellow eyes. An identical blue quarter moon stood on his forehead while two maroon stripes lied on each of his cheeks. She knew he stood a full two heads taller then herself even while he sat.

She adverted her gaze as his glare hardened. She faced Inu Yasha for support, but he didn’t look at her.

Turning her attention back to her children, she took a deep breath and let it out slowly. “Kanade, Kyo, meet your father, Sesshoumaru-sama.”

Kyo laughed and Kanade smiled. “Seriously mom, who is he?” Kanade asked, obviously not believing her.

A growl erupted from the demon. “Woman! What is the meaning of this?”

Kyo immediately stood up from his spot and glared at the demon. “You will respect the Northern Lady. She is above you!” he growled.

Kagome stood up and held her hands out. “Stop Kyo! Sit down and let me handle this, ok darling?” she reassured.

Kyo glared at the demon and sat back down. Kanade stared at her mother as if she’d gone nuts.

“Sesshoumaru, don’t growl at me. Your threats are useless,” she turned to her children. “And I’m not lying.”

“Mom, please. Dad died before we were born. I mean, both you and Uncle Yasha told us. Are you saying some 500 years later, he’s brought back to life? Please! I know majick can bring people back sometimes, but only the recently dead. And even that’s hard,” Kanade said.

Kyo glared at his sister. “Stupid! She obviously lied to us and got Inu Yasha to go with it. What I want to know is why lie to us?” he asked, turning to face Kagome and Inu Yasha.

Kagome stole a quick glance at Sesshoumaru, noticing his hard glare before facing her son again. “I didn’t want to lie to you two, but I was ashamed of the truth. I figured this way, you’d grow up thinking your father was some great demon,” she answered.

Kanade looked up. “Instead of what mom? The Lord of the West? Instead of the Legendary Tiayouki? Instead of the all-revered Sesshoumaru?” she almost yelled.

Kagome glared at her daughter. “Instead of a cold, heartless, soulless, self-centered, all-obey-me, I-don’t-care-about-any-one-but-myself Sesshoumaru. Instead of the man that left me after a one-night thing and a years worth of journeys. Instead of you knowing your father didn’t give a shit about me and denied his blood!” Kagome yelled standing up from her seat. “So you will lower your voice and not accuse me of anything but looking out for you, because that’s all I’ve ever done!”

Tears streamed down her cheeks as her children stared wide eyed at her. Inu Yasha stood up and placed a hand on her shoulder. She jerked out of his reach and turned to face Sesshoumaru.

“And you! I came to your damned castle several times but you kept denying of ever having any kind of contact with me. You called me a liar! And now you demand to know what the hell’s going on? Screw you!”

She stormed out of the room and soon they all could hear music blasting through the house.

Inu Yasha turned his hard eyes to his brother. “You’ve destroyed her life once already, dip-shit, and you’re doing it again. Why can’t you just let everyone live in peace, ass hole?” he asked before following the path Kagome had taken.

Kanade was too shocked at her mothers’ outburst to even move. Kyo turned to face his sister.

“Hey, smart move! Let’s make mom blow up!” he yelled.

Kanade growled and grabbed Kyo's throat. “Shut up mutt! It’s not my fault. If anything it’s his fault,” she sent a glare at Sesshoumaru while snarling, “And yours. You let that bastard in!”

Sesshoumaru’s eyes narrowed as he moved to stand in front of them. “You will respect me. I am your father.”

Kyo laughed. “The only father we respect is dead. You are just a sire.” He pried Kanade’s hands off his throat. “Come on sis. Let’s go find Kikyou.”

They both stood up and left the living room and an angry demon Lord behind them.

He glared at the door that everyone had left through. Deciding nobody was coming back, he figured he’d go and search for the woman.

Kagome sat on her bed and glared at the hanyou before her. No matter what he said to her, the situation was bad. She never figured that Sesshoumaru as a publisher in all her life. She had been careful to stay away. Careful in protecting her children. Careful to keep her heart from shattering again.

Of course, she blamed it on Inu Yasha. He was her informant on what Sesshoumaru was doing and where he was. He had either failed to inform her that Sesshoumaru was a publisher or didn’t even bother on checking upon him this time.

“I’m tired of telling you sorry! I didn’t know he was even in town. Nobody told me. When I last talked to him, he said he was going to Kyoto. I’m sorry!” he tried again.

Kagome sighed and looked down at the floor. “Why can’t things just go easy for us? He’s probably going to fight me tooth and nail for them. I don’t want to give them up. I raised them. They’re my children, damn it!” she cried out. “He’s not getting them ever!”

She hit her fist on her bed and stood up and glared at the painting on the far wall that was covered by black velvet so no one could see it. She was the only one who knew what was under the cloth and she’d keep it that way.

A knock sounded at the door and Inu Yasha growled. Kagome answered it to find the cause of pain and disruption behind it. She scowled and turned around. “See what happens when you don’t stay on top of shit?” she growled at Inu Yasha before storming to her bed and grabbing a pillow, throwing it at the hanyou. “Get lost! And check on the kids. Make sure they’re alright.”

Inu Yasha glared at his brother as he pushed past him to leave the bedroom.

Sesshoumaru watched Inu Yasha leave before walking into the bedroom and closing the door behind him.

“Woman, you will answer my questions,” he demanded.

She laughed dryly before facing him. “Last time I checked, Sesshoumaru, you addressed people of higher rank respectfully. How would it look if the rest of Court found out you called the Northern Lady ‘Woman’ and not by her proper title? How many allies would you lose? I will be spoken to respectfully or you will hold your tongue,” she replied.

Sesshoumaru growled at her. “Fine, Kagome, you will answer my question,” he corrected himself.

“And what questions is that? How about ‘When were you planning on telling me?’ or ‘Why didn’t you tell me?’? Let me answer those first. I did tell you. You denied it more feverishly then a mad man denies he’s gone insane. I told you as soon as I knew when I started to show. But you didn’t care. And I don’t see why you would now.”

She plopped back onto the bed and once again let her gaze fall onto the covered painting.

“Why didn’t you come back after they were born? Show the undeniable truth?” he asked.

She rolled her eyes. “You didn’t want anything to do with them when I was pregnant, what would make me think you’d want something to do with them when they were born?” she asked. “You’d probably scream ‘Witch’ or ‘Spell,’ point at my immortality and have me sent to the dungeons for eternity while you killed them. I didn’t want to subject them to that. I loved them, and I’ll never stop loving them.”

Sesshoumaru’s eyes narrowed. “They are my pups. I didn’t get to see them grow up. You took all of that away from me,” he accused.

She laughed again and let herself fall onto her back. “You took that away from yourself. You denied them. You left me. All I did was love you and love them. I raised them. Fought for everything they have. They asked and I bent over backwards for them Sesshoumaru. I didn’t reject them when I initially thought they were going to be hanyou. So don’t you go blaming me for anything. You should be thanking me fore keeping them safe and happy.”

He watched her closely, noticing her attention was on a velvet covered wall hanging. Ignoring it, he turned back to her. “I would like to stay and get to know my pups better.”

She turned her attention back to him. “Do what you please. But it’s up to them wither or not you can get to know them. I’m not forcing anything onto them,” she answered standing up. “Why don’t you stay here while I go talk to them about it?”

He nodded and took a seat in a chair while she left the bedroom. He listened briefly as she walked down the hall before looking around the bedroom. A huge bed stood in the middle of the large room. A huge bed stood in the middle of the large room. The covers varied in hues of blues and purples, all the material obviously silk. Sniffing slightly, unaware of the action, he noted the only scent on the bed to be Kagome’s own Lilac and Ocean’s breeze scent.

A small book case sat against the wall next to his chair. He dully noted the different kinds. Science fiction, horror, medieval fairytales, a few fictions of various kinds and even fewer of non-fiction. A whole shelf was dedicated to books with words like ‘Spirit,’ ‘Spells,’ and the likes on it. Another was dedicated to Stephen King and a third to Anne McCaffrey’s complete series of Pern.

He moved his attention away to a desk against another wall covered in objects, candles, papers and bowls. Standing up, he moved toward it to study it closer. He shuffled through the papers and read a few lines here and there, taking in her neat hand writing and precise drawings. The table was littered in spells and dream sequences. His brows furrowed together. What was all this for?

He turned his attention to the objects on the desk. Feathers, bowls of sand, ash, water, jars of strange concoctions, wants, stones, and even some brittle looking bones littered the surface. The candles varied in colors and size and inscenes sat in an earthenware mug. He faintly took note that there were only matches on the desk.

He moved once again to another wall. One covered in photos of Kagome and his pups. There were even a few of Inu Yasha, his mate and pups. Some photos held people he had never seen before. Two doors stood on this wall. He opened one to find a fairly decent sized bathroom with a sauna attached to it. Closing it, he turned his attention to the other door, finding this one to lead to a large closet the size of a medium bedroom.

Deciding not to look through her clothing, he closed the door and turned to the last thing in the room. The velvet covered wall hanging. Curiosity got the better of him as he pulled the better cloth off to reveal a painting.

It was a pointing of the edge of a forest with a well traveled path heading into it. Beautiful flowers lined the path and the sun as setting, causing the sky to fly into a fury of reds and golds. But none of this caught his attention. No, but what did was the figure with its back to the painter walking away, its long hair swaying with the motion. He immediately took in the armor and silverfish white hoira with a red flower pattern down one sleeve. He noticed the tail over the figures shoulder catch on a breeze. He noticed the black boot lighting off the ground to move further away. He noticed the two swords on the hip of the figure. He noticed how the sunset played on the silver hair, setting it o-glow with color.

Lastly he noticed the scent of Kagome fresh and strong in the room behind him.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kagome found Kyo and Kanade in the kitchen with Inu Yasha and Kikyou. He had been trying to answer questions that were flying faster then he could answer. He caught Kagome’s eyes and quieted down.
Kyo and Kanade whipped around to face their mother.
“I’m sorry mom. We didn’t know. We shouldn’t have accused you of anything,” Kanade started off.
Kagome rose her hand to stop them from continuing. “It’s alright. I should have told you when you got old enough to understand, but I didn’t. I fucked up. But that’s not why I’m here. What good is it to regret our actions? We both apologized and now we’ve moved on to find our lives are filled once again.”
She smiled as the two nodded, understanding what she had meant by her words.
“What does he want?” Inu Yasha asked.
Kagome sat down at the island with the group and sighed. She turned her attention to her children. “He’s not demanding I hand you tow over. He’s asking to get to know you guys. It’s up to you. It’s your life and I can’t dictate it.”
Kanade and Kyo watched their mother closely before facing each other. Kyo watched his sister for a minute for any doubt as she studied him for any stubbornness. After both were satisfied in what they found, they turned back to Kagome to find her searching for an answer.
Kyo nodded slowly. “We’ll allow it, but as soon as he fucks up, he’s gone. No contact what-so-ever. And I don’t care what any of you say. He’s hurt mom once, and I’ll be damned if he’ll do it again.”
Kanade nodded in agreement and Inu Yasha sighed.
“So we’ll be seeing more of him I guess,” Kikyou stated before leaving the table while dragging Inu Yasha behind her.
“Why don’t you go talk to him? Then we’ll all go to bed. It’s getting pretty late and I’ve got work in the morning,” Kanade offered.
Kagome nodded and stood up heading back to her bedroom to talk to Sesshoumaru. She had expected to find him either reading one of her books or scanning her notes on her desk. She was quite surprised to see him staring at her painting. Much more surprised to see that someone had actually done the unthinkable.
Deciding that she wouldn’t make a big deal about it, even though she wanted to, she sat on her bed and waited for him to notice her, knowing it wouldn’t be long now.
He slowly turned around to face her.
“Do you like it? I did it by memory. It still needs tweaking, but it is fine for the moment.” She stared at the painting, not daring to look at him. “You’re the first one to see it. I had planned to not show it to anyone originally. Still thinking about it.”
He watched her for any anger or embarrassment. Finding none, he looked back. “Why paint it if no one is going to see it?” he asked.
“A reminder to myself,” she answered blandly.
“Of what?” he tried again.
She looked at him as he turned to face her. “To strive for the best for my children, since you decided that you didn’t want to strive for me.”
She stood up and moved to the painting and covered it up before facing him.
Sesshoumaru watched her carefully while she did thin, noticing the longing in her eyes as she looked up at the painting before it completely vanished from sight by the alluring blackness.
“I noticed the desk. What is all of it?” he asked, deciding on changing the topic.
She turned to look at it. “Notes, studies. Nothing special. You want to see magnificent Wiccan work, then I’ve got a whole room dedicated to it. Kanade’s been studying for a few years now and Kyo’s starting to look into it, though I wish he’d dedicate himself to it like his sister and myself. But if wishes were fishes, you know,” she answered.
He glanced down at the woman. ‘Wiccan? My daughter is a Wiccan? She’s lost her tradition. Maybe my son will keep his,’ he thought.
“And the pictures?” he asked.
“Family and friends. I thought that’d be obvious,” she answered walking over to the photos.
She pointed to a woman wearing baggy Tripp (Hot Topic) pants and a hoody. Her hair was bright pink with black roots. “That’s Irene, my bestest.” She pointed to a red-headed woman wearing a pink and white striped shirt and a hippie skirt holding a bunny. “That’s Steph, my best.”
She continued to point to people. “That’s Sango and Miroku, her boyfriend. Over there’s Shippo. I pretty much raised him. He’s demon. This is Kouga. He’s very headstrong and likes to fancy mating me, even though he knows it’s not happening. This is the woman he’s courting, Ayame. They’re both wolf demons. I believe you know Kaugra and Hitten. He used to be a guard for you before he mated her. That’s Kilala and Kirara. Neko twins and quite annoying at times. That’s Rin. She’s sweet tempered and quiet. Kanna’s right there. She’s Kaugra’s sister. That’s their brother, Naraku. He’s kind of creepy but we all deal with it. Who else? Oh! Hojo, Yuri, Eri, and Azumi. They’re a great group, but a bit to immature and childish to hang with all the time. And that’s Yura. She’s a hair demon. I think that about does it,” she said pulling her hand away from the pictures.
“You’ve got quite a group of friends,” he admired.
“Well, when you’re my age, things like that can happen, you know?” she smiled up at the pictures. “They’re all family in their own way.”
He nodded before sitting down on the bed. “And what did the pups say?” he asked.
“They’ve got names, you know,” she replied, rolling her eyes. “It’s Kyo and Kanade. And they said they’d grant you your wish, but the first time you screw up, you’re gone. They won’t want anything to do with you,” she answered sitting next to him.
He nodded. “Understood. I believe I will go home for the night then.”
She watched him stand up before deciding on what to do. “How about you stay here tonight? That way you’ll be closer to them. It’ll make it easier for you to get to know them and what not,” she offered.
He nodded and she quickly stood up and led him to an empty room that he could stay in.
“Breakfast is at eight if you want it. Kyo and Inu Yasha are up at five to work out and train if you want to join them. Otherwise you’re welcome to join Kanade and myself in meditation. Good night.”
With that, she turned around and left, closing the door behind her.
Kagome lit and incense while Kanade set in a soothing CD. They settled down on two fluffy pillows to begin when the door opened, revealing Sesshoumaru. Kanade nodded in his direction as Kagome began to even her breathing and began to clear her mind, going through the last day’s events.
Kanade soon followed her mother as Sesshoumaru sat down on a spare pillow to watch them before he began as well. He studied Kanade first, noticing her complete lack of authority while her whole body screamed to obey her in a non-threatening way. As he studied her, he realized she was beautiful. Her blue eyes, now hidden behind her eyelids, complemented her silver hair, making her look like some kind of goddess. She seemed quite relaxed and happy around her mother.
He turned his attention to Kagome. She hadn’t changed much. Her hair was longer, reaching beneath her ass. She seemed fuller then he remembered, but he couldn’t really tell. She seemed happier then last time. She was relaxed and mature, smarter then before. Wiser too.
He smirked to himself before settling down to even his breathing.
“MOM! Yasha’s been cheating again! He’s been pulling my hair during practice,” Kyo yelled, walking into the kitchen. Kanade rolled her eyes at her brother.
“Shish! Grow up. I don’t even whine anymore.”
Kyo glared at her and pulled the glass of orange juice out of her hand.
“Hey! That’s mine!” she whined, trying to get it out of his hands.
“He’s not the only one that whines. Give her back her drink and sit down. And Inu Yasha, don’t make me tell Kikyou again. Straighten up your act and fight like a man, not a woman,” Kagome scolded while setting plates down in front of everyone. “Breakfast is ready and you’re all going to act your age at my table.”
They all mumbled a ‘yes ma’am’ before taking their seats around the island while she served them their food. Sesshoumaru watched on in amusement and thanked Kagome for the eggs and bacon she placed on his plate. He watched as she sat down at the table and everyone became louder and more rambunctious then before.
“Shut up! He’s a friend, not a potential Mate!” Kanade cried.
“So he’s sitting there telling me you can’t jump over the damn…”
“Watch your mouth at my table, young man,” Kagome scolded.
“Shut up! I don’t want to hear about you kissing people,” Inu Yasha yelled.
Breakfast continued on this way as Sesshoumaru tried to catch everything being said. Kanade as the first to finish her food and leave the table.
“I got to go to work. I won’t be home for supper. Kirara and Kilala want me to go to the clubs with them tonight. I’ll see you tomorrow,” she said kissing Kagome on the cheek.
“Alright darling. Have fun and don’t drink to much. See you in the morning,” she replied.
Kyo waved bye while stuffing his face with toast and Inu Yasha ‘feh’d’ at her.
As soon as Kanade left, Inu Yasha had gotten up. “Hitten wanted me to do inventory today so I have to go now, or else I’ll be late. Kikyou should be here for dinner. I’ll be back too. Bye!” he called walking out of the kitchen.
Kyo looked up. “I’ll do dishes. I work bar shift tonight so I’m free. We’re looking at places today, right mom?” he asked.
She nodded. “Yeah. I just have to call the office and make sure nobodies fucking anything up. Then we can take off and look at them. But you both have to agree. Sesshoumaru, would like to join us?” she asked, turning to the quiet demon.
“What are you looking for?” he asked.
“Kanade and I are getting out own Club for our birthday. Mom said so, but we have to pick out our own place this week. Our birthday’s this weekend after all. So, do you want to help?” he asked.
Sesshoumaru nodded. “Indeed.”
Kagome rolled her eyes at this. “Alright mister, get the dishes done. I’ll go make my phone call and be back down in a few minutes.”
The all met up in the living room as soon as they finished taking care of their business.
“So, I talked to the agent a few days ago. He said that we could look whenever. So, let’s go,” Kagome said, wrapping an arm around her son’s neck as they walked out of the house, Sesshoumaru following behind them to Kagome’s BMW GTO. He nodded in approval in her taste for cars, granted it was American, but that didn’t matter. Good taste was just that. Good taste.
They all climbed in, Kyo taking the back so his father could take the front. Kagome climbed behind the wheel and started up the car, music blaring from the speakers. Sesshoumaru covered his ears and glared at her.
“Turn down that infernal noise!” he growled over the music. Kyo laughed as Kagome turned it down a bit.
“I guess dad’s not used to loud music.”
Kagome laughed as well. “He’s an old-timer, honey. None of the old-timers like today’s loud and fast pace lifestyle.”
Sesshoumaru glared at her before looking at his son. He had called him dad. Something shifted in his chest at the realization. He took note of it and decided tat a call to the doctors about it was in order. He noticed his sons’ relaxed state even with the loud music and his happy demure around him.
Without warning, the car bolted out of the driveway and onto the street, easily beating the speed limit by 40 or 50, she wasn’t sure which. She easily passed other cars and cut through alley ways, narrowly missing cats and dogs, stopping suddenly for children and adults alike before speeding off again. Sesshoumaru gripped his seat while Kyo hollered in the back seat, urging her to go faster.
An evil grin spread across her face as they reached downtown.
“Ok mom. They’re up by five. We need to kick their asses. All you have to do is…” Kyo coached in the backseat.
“All you have to do is buckle up and shut up mister. I know the score. They’re up by one. You’re losing terribly and your sister, well, she might as well be dead to the game. So shut your mouth because I’m a one woman team!”
With that, she stepped down on the petal, going at least 20 more then before as she weaved through the traffic. Sesshoumaru’s claws dug into her seats as Kyo whined behind him about unfair games.
“Stop clawing my seats Sesshoumaru. I just had them re-appulstered. That damn brother of yours decided to fuck Kikyou in my car. Why they couldn’t use their own is beyond me. Stupid fuck refuses to pay for it,” she scowled while dodging a truck form the on coming lane and pulling into an alley ay, killing the engine. “We’re here.”
“Mom, I never ever want to hear about what Uncle Yasha and Aunt Kikyou are doing anywhere, ever, again,” Kyo shuddered.
“Well then, you’ll be glad to know they’ve gone at it in your room, on your bed, at least five times in your shower and the toilet. Oh yeah, that time they borrowed your motorcycle, and then your ‘sweet baby cherry.’ Where else?”
By this time Kyo was pretending to throw up while crying out curses and objections.
Kagome just smiled. “Got ya! They didn’t do any of that. Except your bed. I know for a fact they did that one. I yelled at them and then bought you a new bed. Thank god you were in England that week,” she finished off.
Kyo stared after her in shock as Kagome turned around and began to walk toward the door in the alley way. Sesshoumaru smirked as he followed after her. Kyo quickly caught up to him.
“You think she’s kidding?” he asked.
He glanced at the demon out of the corner of his eye. “Hn,” was his only response.
At that, Kyo ran to a garbage can and threw up behind it. Kagome sighed as Sesshoumaru restrained from rolling his eyes. They waited for him to finish before going into the building.
Kyo stared in wonder. “What was this place? A fucking Mafia hang out?” he asked.
“Better. A Yakuza hang out. They enjoyed the fine art of the medieval time periods, hence the ceiling and the Gothic architecture,” a chubby, balding man answered.
The ceiling was covered in angels, beautiful women and handsome men, all basically made with scraps of cloth covering the men’s sexes, feasting and frolicking in gardens and forests. Stained glass windows lined the ceiling on one wall, the colorful light dancing on the ground as people walked on the streets above them. They had walked down stairs and a thin hallway, leading to the grand entrance to the beauty of the place. Gothic arches held the ceiling up, breaking up the ceiling and sending pillars onto the floor, also breaking up the floor into sections. Against the back wall, the could see a balcony.
Kyo headed toward it. He climbed the stairs, faintly noting the luxurious red carpet that covered them and found himself looking into a fully furnished area. Dark wood was the theme along with the gothic style furniture. Intricate weaves headed the chairs as the tables were thick and heavy looking. Red velvet covered the seats. He looked back down at the group, who were discussing menial things about the place.
“Yo! Why’s there furniture up here? I figured a Yakuza would clear everything out,” he called down.
The short man nodded. “Normally yes. This one was a bit more generous and decided to give the next owner the best of his collection. Something about if people are going to appreciate this place and the art, then they might as well enjoy the furniture too. Pretty nice, if you ask me,” the old man answered.
“Yeah it is. So mom. This can be the V.I.P. Where you’re all standing is the dance floor. I’ll have tables all over but mainly against the walls. Gothic style to go with everything else. The bar can go against the wall with the windows. We can hire bouncers and everything.”
Kagome rolled her eyes. “You have to OK it with your sister. Myouga says we can look at the other places too. Do you want to do that?”
He leaned over the railing. “I’ve been sending her pictures as soon as we walked in. She said don’t bother looking at anything else because if I don’t get you to sigh for this then I’m dead. Like she could kill me,” he huffed.
“Alright Myouga. You heard the boy. We’re buying it,” she smiled at the old flea demon who kept glancing wearily at Sesshoumaru.
“Of course, Kagome-sama! I’ve got all the papers right here. Follow me please.”
Kagome sighed and stared at the ceiling. Her friend Sango had decided to drop by. She had of course dragged Miroku over, as well.
“You know what will happen Kagome. It always happens for some strange reason. You’re going to let yourself feel something because he shows some sort of feeling and right when your ready to commit, he’ll be gone. They always are. I don’t know what it is, but when they hear love or marriage, they don’t want anything to do with you anymore. Don’t torture yourself anymore!” her friend cried out.
“Sango, shut up for once. I already had feelings for this guy. Shit, he’s Kyo’s and Kanade’s fucking father! How much more feelings can you have? And I already know he’s not interested in me. The only reason he’s around is to get to know his pups. It’s hard, you know? He’s staying under my roof. But not in the room I want him to be in. He’s probably got some girlfriend or mate somewhere out there,” Kagome flung her hand to the window to emphasize the comment.
She felt Sango sit on the couch next to her. “Listen, you’ll find someone some day. Who cares about ‘the-worlds-not-good-enough-for-me’ Sesshoumaru. At least he’s taking an interest in the kids, right?” she asked, trying to cheer her friend up.
Kagome glanced at her before looking back up at the ceiling. “Yeah. Who can go wrong with a heartless father?”
The both laughed before standing up and heading to the dojo for their Yoga session. They found Miroku flat on his stomach with Inu Yasha and Kyo standing over him yelling at each other while Sesshoumaru watched from the wall.
“Well, if you’d keep your door locked while you’re not here,” Inu Yasha yelled.
“I shouldn’t have to! I live here and you don’t! Go do that in your own place! I’m your nephew, for crying out fucking loud! That’s just disgusting for you to be doing that in my room, on my bed!” Kyo yelled back.
“If I want to screw…”
“THAT’S ENOUGH!” Kagome screamed, startling the two and causing everyone to wince. “I don’t want to hear about you fucking Kikyou anywhere but in your own bed, and not even then! As for you!” she turned on her son. “You got a new mattress, so shut up! They didn’t even get to finish anything before I found them. And everyone get out! It’s Friday and it’s four O’clock! The dojo’s mine and Sango’s for the rest of the night. If anyone wants to do yoga with us today, you’re more then welcome to stay.”
The group grumbled as Miroku sat up. “Nice to see you again Kagome-sama. You are looking exceptionally beautiful today. Would you mind bearing my children?” he asked with an award winning smile.
“Oh! ‘Roku! You’re finally proposing? Should I set the wedding date? Or we can just mate instead. That way I know you’ll be faithful,” Kagome cried, sarcasm dripping off her every word.
Sango snickered at Miroku’s crestfallen face.
“You know, you’ve lost all your old charm. What ever happened to beating me into a bloody pulp? Or throwing daggers at my head? How about that one time you threw my over the boat and attempted to drown me?”
Kyo watched his mom carefully. “You never actually did any of that, did you mom?”
Inu Yasha laughed dryly. “He’s kidding, right?” he asked Kagome.
“He’s the oblivious one. Don’t know anything that happens around here,” Sango answered.
“But when? MOM! You’re supposed to be cool and laid back. Not murderous and dangerous!” he cried.
Everyone laughed. “You don’t know women at all, do you?” Miroku patted Kyo on the back.
“Women are all of that. They’re normally mild tempered and easy going until they get pissed, my boy. How about us men clue you in while your mom and Aunt Sango do their yoga?” Inu Yasha asked while leading Kyo out of the room. Miroku followed behind them, a wise and all –knowing smile on his face.
The girls turned their attention to the remaining demon.
“Yoga?” Sango asked him.
He nodded slightly. He watched as they laid down their mats and began to stretch. He knew what yoga was, but had never done any himself. He didn’t know what had possessed him to join the women either. He was interested to know his pups’ mother’s lifestyle as much as he was to know his pups’ lifestyles. He couldn’t figure this out either.
He watched as they began, taking residence behind them while following their moves. It almost seemed as if the were flexible enough to touch their elbows behind their backs. The thought of Kagome doing this excited him in ways no other demoness or woman could. He quickly stopped that train of thought and moved on with the session.
He found himself facing off against Kagome. She stood before him in a sports bra and some cut off jean shorts holding a dagger and a sword. He wasn’t allowed any due to him being demon. Sango stood off to the side keeping score, of what, he didn’t know.
“Alright! Begin!” Sango called out, sliding behind a special glass cage made for dojo watchers.
Kagome charged him and swung out with the dagger. He moved swiftly to the other side to avoid being hit. At the same time he moved, Kagome swung her sword out, catching his thigh wit the blunt object. He jumped backward, realizing that she wouldn’t be able to hurt him physically.
Sango called out a one as Kagome fell back slightly to keep her gaze on him and tried to read his next move.
“Where are you going for that search?” Sango called out as Sesshoumaru dashed forward to attack her. As she moved the sword in front of her to block, she threw the dagger behind herself to attack as Sesshoumaru disappeared before her eyes.
“I don’t know. Where do all the single men go to hang out? I mean, I’d prefer demon, but what demon would mate me knowing I have demon children? They’ll get all crazy psycho,” Kagome answered at the same time.
She whipped around to find Sesshoumaru watching her closely as he dropped her dagger to the ground.
He rushed forward, pinning her to the wall from her neck.
“Two, two!” Sango cried out while writing on a pad of paper.
Kagome raised her left arm, twisting her body slightly, she brought it down onto Sesshoumaru’s wrist causing him to loosen his grip on her neck. She ducked and pulled away, sending a kick at his legs.
“Two!” Sango called back. “You know, not many humans like the idea of demon children either.”
Kagome watched as Sesshoumaru moved back, avoiding her low kick. He rushed her again, causing her to retreat.
“Are you saying I’ll be single for life unless I find a hanyou or something?” she asked while dodging a high kick.
“Pretty much. One! And even then, most hanyou’s won’t accept it. You’re completely screwed up the ass,” Sango answered.
Kagome plopped down onto the floor and sighed, giving up on the fight at hand. “I should just give up, huh?” she asked facing Sango.
Sango frowned at her friend. “No. You’ll find someone accepting someday. Don’t get your hopes down.”
“But your telling me at the same time not to get them up either. So what the hell should I do?”
“I don’t know,” Sango admitted. “Do what you want to. All I can really do is support you.”
Sesshoumaru listened to the conversation. His heart cried out to him to comfort her. Turning around he decided he would contact that doctor sooner then he thought before.
“So who won?” Kagome asked, standing back up.
Sango looked down at the pad of paper in her hand. “You by two. And for some reason I though he’d win by at least twenty. Do you want to go?”
“I guess,” Kagome shrugged her shoulders.
“No holding back either. That was sloppy and weak Kagome!” she scolded.
Kagome shrugged again. “It’s been a while. I didn’t know how rusty he was. Doesn’t matter now. Get up,” she commanded.
Sango stood up and moved in front of Kagome, taking up her stance. Sesshoumaru moved to the side of the dojo and sat down to watch.
He watched as they began, Kagome moving faster then before, sending Sango flying. Sango kept up with her though, making hits on Kagome that made her stumble and flutter several times. He was impressed by their strength and agility for being so small and delicate looking.
After an hour of fighting each other, they fell to the ground in two separate heaps.
“You suck on your blockings,” Kagome commented.
“Well, at least I’m not fumbling with my dagger! Straighten up,” she growled.
“At least I know where to fucking stab. You were miles off,” she countered.
“I got 247, you?” Sango asked.
“268, not counting the three stumbles I caused. I win once again,” Kagome raised a hand in the air.
“You know, Sesshoumaru must think we’re slow and clumsy,” Sango chuckled.
“We should get dinner ready. The boys are probably hungry and raiding my kitchen,” Kagome said sitting up.
“Shepherds Pie tonight, right?” Sango asked.
Kagome nodded before getting up and helped Sango up to her feet.
“Coming?” Sango asked, looking at the demon.
He nodded and followed behind them. They all headed into the kitchen to find Miroku, Inu Yasha, Kyo, Kouga and Hojo sitting around the island fighting over who had to find the hidden stash of chocolate.
“How about you all forget about the chocolate in this house and get out of my kitchen?” Kagome said, making the group jump.
“MOM! There you are! They’re trying to get me to raid your room!” Kyo shouted.
“Whatever! You told us she has it in there, stupid! Plus you were trying to get Hojo to do it!” Inu Yasha growled.
“Well, it doesn’t matter. You don’t know it’s even in the house. Plus dinner will be ready soon, so scram,” she said while pushing Kouga off his stool.
“Hey! Woman! Don’t do that!” Kouga cried.
“My house, my rules. OUT!” Kagome cried again, pointing to the door.
Miroku quickly left the kitchen dragging Inu Yasha behind him. Hojo quickly followed after the two men.
“So, what have you been up to?” Kouga asked, leaning up against the counter.
Kyo rolled his eyes. “Hey, dip-shit. Leave my mom alone. She isn’t interested in you. Keep it up and I might just shove my foot up your ass,” he warned.
“Shut it, mutt face! She’s my woman,” Kouga growled.
“Excuse me? Don’t you dare call my son mutt face! You better watch yourself Kouga. I’ll kick your ass personally,” Kagome threatened.
Kouga glared at Kyo before taking off to find Inu Yasha, Miroku and Hojo. Kyo watched him leave before turning back to face Kagome.
“I don’t see why you allow him to hang around here. All he does is try to hit on you and get you mate him. Besides yelling at Inu Yasha and scowling at me. I’m almost tempted to just not let him in one day.”
Kagome sighed as she sat down, Sango following her lead. Sesshoumaru leaned up against the counter. “Yeah, I know, but he’s a friend. That’s just how he’s been forever. You just get used to it.”
“Whatever. I’m going to find the guys and see what they’re doing. Call me when suppers done.” Kyo stood up and left the kitchen, following the loud yells of his Uncle and friends.
“Why Kagome? Why do you let that wolf in here and destroy shit?” Sango asked.
Kagome rolled her eyes. “He doesn’t destroy anything. He just yells and claims things he had no right over. So what? He’s been around for what seems like ever. We’re used to it. Even Kyo, despite his blunt dislike toward Kouga.”
“KAGOME! KYO’S TRYING TO KILL INU YASHA!” Miroku screamed.
“He’s your son and relative,” Sango glared.
“Yeah, but that’s your boyfriend. Plus, it’s your turn anyway. I don’t want to deal with them again,” she whined.
Sango sighed before heading out the door and down the path the men had taken, leaving Kagome alone for the first time with Sesshoumaru.
She glanced at him before pulling out the things for Shepherds Pie. “So, what do you think of them so far?”
“They are still young,” was his only answer.
Kagome snorted. “Yeah right. You try living with them for more then a day. They’re not young. They’re strange. I talk to other demon mothers and they say that their pups aren’t anything like mine. They think they’re oddities. Then when I try to get them to act normal, Kyo pretends he’s an utter retard while Kanade parades around half naked bashing everyone. Like that’s any more normal!” she scoffed while almost slamming a bowl onto the counter. “They hardly have any respect for the people outside this house and they don’t care about ranking or class. I try to tell them how important it is they pay attention to that kind of stuff. They blow it off like it’s nothing. At least they understand the values of family. That’s the only thing I know they’ll remember in the long run.”
Sesshoumaru smirked slightly. “They obviously take after you.”
Kagome shot a glare at him. “I thought it was you,” she remarked.
“MOM!” a shout sounded from the living room.
“Kanade’s home early.” With that, Kagome left the kitchen, Sesshoumaru trailing behind her. She entered the living room to find Kanade talking to a man with dark eyes to the point of looking black and deep red hair.
“Mom, there you are. I wanted you to meet my friend, Kyo. Weird, huh? He’s got Kyo’s name,” Kanade laughed.
Kagome sighed. “Really now! Is there a sign over my house screaming ‘here’s Kagome!’” she asked.
Kanade stared at her mother, taken back by her rudeness. “Mom! Be nice! He’s my guest!”
“Oh, please Kanade. You’re his ward. He’s your damn protector. And if he’s here, then neither you or your brother are leaving. Go find him.” Kagome commanded.
Sesshoumaru finally entered the room to get a better look at the man on the couch. The man was slightly shorter then himself and looked quite muscular. He watched as Kagome sighed and plopped onto the couch across from the man.
“Drop it Kyo. I absolutely hate it.”
The air around Kyo began to shimmer as if in a heat wave, changing the mans appearance. Dark red hair that had once been shoulder length was cut shorter, almost ear length and tousled. Almost black eyes turned completely black with silver slits for pupils. Claws grew where blunt nails once laid.
“My Lady. I see you have finally mated?” he asked, bowing his head in respect.
“Ha ha! Yeah right. What are you doing here?” she asked.
“I have bad news, my Lady. You are lucky you don’t have that sign hanging over your house,” he replied.
Kagome leaned back into the couch and crossed her arms. “Does this have anything to do with that 300 year old disappearing act you pulled?” she asked.
“I’m sorry about that, my Lady. It was for your safety and the pups. If I would have stayed near you, they would surely not be as abnormal as they are. In fact, they would be nothing more then fertilizer,” he answered.
Kagome glared at the demon. “You got into trouble, hence getting us into trouble, again. Didn’t you? And don’t lie to me Kyo. I know you better then that,” she warned.
He nodded once. “But my Lady. It was not on purpose. They were after it. They wanted it more then anything. I accidentally let your beautiful name slip between my lips and they were all over it. I’m so sorry. It is still safe though.”
Kanade entered with the guys and Sango who all stared at the demon.
“DAMN IT KAGOME! WE’RE IN TROUBLE AGAIN!!!” Inu Yasha yelled.
“It is good to see you as well, Lord Inu Yasha. It has been a while,” Kyo nodded in the hanyou’s direction.
Inu Yasha scowled at the demon. “What the hell did you do this time? Kill some Lord and looking for refuge? Killed a village? Raped a chick? What?”
“INU YASHA! You will treat my servant with respect or you will hold your damn tongue. He’s just as careless as you,” Kagome yelled.
“Mom. What the hell is going on?” Kyo asked.
“Yeah. You don’t know Kyo,” Kanade cut in.
Sesshoumaru stepped forward, glaring at the demon on the couch. “An explanation is in order.”
Kagome stood up and moved in front of Sesshoumaru. “He’s my servant. You leave him alone. He doesn’t answer to anyone but me. You hear me?”
He glared at her. “Indeed.”
“Mom, what the fucks going on?” Kyo asked.
Kagome sat back down and stared at the demon on the couch. “It’s safe then? For sure?” she asked him, ignoring everyone else.
“Of course, my Lady. It’s still in the realm,” was his answer.
“Alright. So, sit down and I’ll explain everything that I can explain. Everything else you’ll need not know,” she said.
“Oh, no you don’t mom! You’re holding to many fucking secrets. You’re telling us all of it,” Kanade threatened.
“Fine, but when people come to torture you in unimaginable ways, you better not spill the beans,” Kagome shrugged.
Everyone sat down and glared at Kagome and the demon on the couch called Kyo. As Sesshoumaru settled down next to Kagome, he laid a hand on her knee and squeezed it without realizing what he was doing.
She glanced at him and laid her hand over his, a warm feeling floating inside her. Nobody seemed to notice this brief moment between the two people as they were concentrating on what was going on.
“A long time ago, before you kids were born, I met Kyo here. It was during the last part of my pregnancy, so he helped me out, seeming as I couldn’t do anything. He stayed with me as a faithful servant and protected you two whenever I was busy doing other things.
“As you got older, he started protecting you from afar. I ordered it because you two needed to learn to protect yourselves and all that crap that came with the feudal ages. Then one day, he just disappeared. I don’t know why he did, but I know that it had something to do with a group of demons in the Southern Lands. I left you with Inu Yasha and left to see if I could find him myself. I think you two remember that time. I was gone for a good two years.”
“The worse two years of my life,” Inu Yasha mumbled.
“Oh, please! We weren’t that bad,” Kanade said.
“Oh, shut up,” Kagome cut in. “I heard he had went into hiding because of this group. But why the hell he’d do that is beyond me. He’s got some of my blood in him. He’s part Immortal.”
Kyo straightened up and looked at Kagome. “My Lady, I am sorry for not finding you sooner. I didn’t dare leave hiding or send word to you. The leader of that group is fierce and unforgiving. He’s been looking for it for a while now and he knows that you have something to do with it. I didn’t want to lead him to you or the pups. I was protecting you from afar.”
Kagome nodded. “Ok, but who is this leader? And why are they looking for it?”
Kouga leaned forward. “What is this thing they’re looking for? And why does Kagome and you know about it and nobody else?”
Kyo glared at Kouga while Kagome sighed.
“It was the thing that allowed me to travel back into time. The Mirror of Essence. It’s a mythical mirror to anyone, but it’s legendary and very powerful,” Kagome answered.
“I’ve heard of it in fairytales,” Hojo cut in. “I heard that the holder of the mirror could take over the world if that was their desire.”
Kyo laughed. “It can do more then that. It can wipe villages clean. Leave no trace that it ever existed, if the wielder so choose. It can travel through time and to people and it can lead you to grand victories. But in the wrong hands, it can destroy the world. Not take it over.”
“And mom owns this mirror?” Kyo asked looking up at her.
“Nobody owns it. It owns you. Before I went back in time, I loved myths and legends. Studied them as one would a math equation. I soon came upon many stories of the mirror. Also stories of Immortality,” Kagome said, her eyes glazing over.
Flashback
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
“Kagome, what are you reading now? Don’t tell me it’s another of those myths,” Eri whined.
“Yeah, you’re obsessed with those things. Can’t you find something better to read?” Yuri complained from across the table at the Library.
Kagome glared at the two girls and continued on. She had stumbled across another Mirror of Essence myth, but it was different then all the other ones. It held a tale of Immortality in it. Never had the two myths ever been combined to her knowledge.
A young woman, that reminded her of herself, had stumbled across the mirror and used it to go back in time. There, she traveled with a demon for a year before finally coming across an old woman who offered her immortality up to the young woman. The young woman excepted it and continued on with life.
“Kagome, this obsession isn’t healthy. I’d say you’re looking for this mirror if anything. Just let it be. You’ll never find it,” Eri cut in once again.
“I’m not looking for the mirror. I just want to know more about it. That’s all,” Kagome reassured. “And if I ever did find the mirror, it’ll probably just be old and normal. Like every other mirror. I think people stretched the truth about the powers of it.”
Yuri rolled her eyes. “Whatever. You’re never going to find a boyfriend with your nose in a book about some ancient mirror anyway. Let’s go get something to eat?”
End
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
“So what? You found a story with where the mirror was?” Kanade asked.
“No,” Kagome answered. “It came to me. I don’t know how, nor am I going to pretend I do. I just know that one day while I was at home, it showed up on my door step. I knew it was the mirror right away. It fit the description and it even looked like the one drawing of the mirror I owned. So I tested it.”
“How do you test a mirror?” Miroku asked.
“I sent myself back in time. That’s when I realized what it was for sure. And that I was part of a myth forgotten by time. So I moved along and ended up where I am today,” she answered.
Kyo looked at her. “So we’re all just tests?” he asked him mom.
“No. Sending myself back in time was a test. Everything else had already been written out for me. I knew my destiny because of the myths of immortality I had read. I just followed my guide lines and did my part. Though, to be truthful, you two were never mentioned in any of them.”
Kyo and Kanade looked at each other. “Well, would you have done any of it if you knew we were involved?” he asked.
Kagome laughed. “Of course I would have. You’re my children after all. Don’t worry about all that. But what I’m worried about is why are you back here?” she asked, turning her attention once again to the demon across from her.
“They have found and targeted you, my Lady. I have infiltrated their group with a spy. He has been trying to keep them off your tracks and mine own, but I knew it could only last for so long. He warned me that they have found you and are planning an attack. I am here to serve you once again and protect the pups, if you would allow me, my Lady,” he offered, bowing his head to her.
Kagome nodded and sighed. “Alright. And the mirror? It is safe?”
“Of course, my Lady. It is still in the original hiding place. If you wish, I can show it to you for reassurance,” Kyo offered.
She nodded her head and held her breath as Kyo became a mere wisp of smoke before her and materialized once again, holding a mirror in his hands.
“My Lady, here it is,” he said handing it over to her.
Kagome took the mirror and looked it over. The silver shine had dulled somewhat with black spots on the back, like any old mirror. The simple gold frame held the dent she had caused by dropping it when she traveled back in time on a rock out of shock. The small mirrors weight seemed to lighten by her touch and glow slowly around the edge.
“Still as beautiful as always,” she whispered. “You have taken great care of it. It must have been heavy for you to carry like that for so long.”
Kyo nodded his head. “Yes, but I could handle it. It was easier when I slept.”
Kagome looked away from the mirror, trying to keep any thought of what she wanted out of her head. “Take it back. I can’t use it anymore.”
Kyo picked it up and once again dematerialized and materialized again. “It will be safe.”
Kanade stared at Kyo for a minute. “What the hell was that?” she asked.
“My form. The way I protect and hide,” Kyo answered.
“He’s a shadow demon. From the continents. Specifically America,” Kagome answered.
“So what? We’re all in danger because of some gang of demons?” Kouga asked.
“Kagome and the pups are in danger. Not you,” Kyo corrected. “I will protect the pups with my life.”
“So you’d let them torture Kagome?” Sango asked, finally deciding she’d jump in this conversation.
“My Lady can take care of herself. I’ve seen it with my own eyes,” Kyo answered with a look toward Kagome.
“Ah. The dark times are upon us once again, my dear friend. When do they plan to attack?” she asked.
“Next week. You have been keeping up with your training? And the pups?” Kyo asked.
Kagome nodded. “Do you want proof? I will gladly train with you after supper,” Kagome offered.
“Supper? What weird concoction are you making tonight?” he asked.
“Shepherds Pie,” she smiled.
He nodded and Kagome left the living room to make supper.
