Author's Chapter Notes:
Authors Notes:  Well here's the end...I know it's a little sad and doesn't necessarily center around the main story but it's more of a tribute to anyone who has lost someone important to them and thought they wouldn't always be there.  Hope you enjoyed it.

Disclaimer:  I do not own anything associated with Inuyasha and will make no profit from this story.  All recognized characters are the property of the original author.  All original characters as well as the plot of this story belong to the author.  I also do not own the rights to the song "If Today Was Your Last Day" but it worked well here but I'm not trying to steal it :D

********************************************************************

Down the dark hallway, to the door on the left, he once again made his way.  He opened the door which he left unlocked and looked around the empty room.  He sat back down on the bed and cried like he had ever cried before.  He was a proud man, he never cried.  He never had much use for it, feeling that it made him weak.  Today, he didn't care and he let his tears fall gracefully from his eyes.  He spotted an envelope sitting on the desk, somehow he had managed not to see it earlier.  He stood up and walked over to the desk to find the envelope was addressed to him.  With shaking hands, he carefully opened it and pulled the letter out from inside.

Neatly written on the brightly colored paper were the lyrics to a song.  He took his time to read each word very very carefully.

My best friend gave me the best advice
He said each day’s a gift and not a given right
Leave no stone unturned, leave your fears behind
And try to take the path less traveled by
That first step you take is the longest stride

If today was your last day
and tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
If today was your last day

Against the grain should be a way of life
What’s worth the prize is always worth the fight
Every second counts ’cause there’s no second try
So live like you’ll never live it twice
Don’t take the free ride in your own life

If today was your last day
and tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
Would you call old friends you never see?
Reminisce of memories
Would you forgive your enemies?
Would you find that one you’re dreamin’ of?
Swear up and down to God above
That you finally fall in love
If today was your last day

If today was your last day
Would you make your mark by mending a broken heart?
You know it’s never too late to shoot for the stars
Regardless of who you are
So do whatever it takes
‘Cause you can’t rewind a moment in this life
Let nothin’ stand in your way
Cause the hands of time are never on your side

If today was your last day
and tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
Would you call old friends you never see?
Reminisce of memories
Would you forgive your enemies?
Would you find that one you’re dreamin’ of?
Swear up and down to God above
That you finally fall in love
If today was your last day

He reached the bottom of the page and sank back on the bed, once again fighting back those damn tears, he was fighting a losing battle.

"Why are you crying?" a voice said to him.

"Please, don't be sad, I hate it when you're sad." Ami said lovingly to him.

"How can you tell me not to be sad?!"

"It's easy." she said smiling at him.

"No, it is not easy.  It hasn't been easy, it will never be easy."

"No, it's not, but you can't dwell in the past any more Sesshoumaru.  You have to move on, and live for yourself."

"How, how am I to go on?"

"By remembering the days we spent together, all the fun stuff we used to do, and know that I'm right here beside you."

"No, you've gone away."

"True, but I really haven't.  You're talking to me aren't you?"

"Yes, but I am dreaming."

"No, you're not." she said smiling at him one more time.

"It's time for me to go."

"Do you have to?" he asked sadly.

"Yeah, but don't worry, I won't be far."

She stood up before him and he felt her place a soft kiss on his forehead.  He reached out to take hold of her but only found the air.

"Sesshoumaru?" his father was standing in the doorway.  "Who are you talking to?"

He looked around but only saw his father.  It wasn't a dream, he knew it wasn't.  He could smell her perfume, he could feel her warmth, and his skin burned where she kissed him.  He smiled.

"I get the message Ami" he said to himself before turning to his father.

"No one father, just a conversation with myself."
